-Route for the Half Marathon, it was an out and back twice… and there were hills for sure. Will upload picture. Turns were clearly marked out. No getting lost. Route is shared with bikers, but it didn’t seem to chaotic.
Race Swag – a medal. The medal is not specific to the run but to the series (i.e. It doesn’t state San Antonio, or the date, etc). Placement prizes were a big foot pin with the place ranking. Shirts were a cotton t-shirt (also series based), but you do have the opportunity to deny a shirt for $5. But for the $20 I paid, can’t expect a ton.
– Production was a little lacking. Parking was plenty and easy, but I arrived early to volunteer. It was at a park, so there were bathrooms, but like 45 minutes prior to the start of the run, the women’s bathroom was already out of TP in half the stalls. I signed up for the “volunteer and run” which allows you to show up early, run any race, and then volunteer after you finish. It cost $20. When I got there, the race director told me I wasn’t allowed to do the half marathon; I can only do the 5k. I was told “how can I volunteer if I’m running” and that volunteers will be needed for the aid stations and along the route, and there’s nothing really do volunteer wise in prior to the race. I was basically argued with – despite the fact that I had signed up, paid, and showed up an hour and a half before the run time (as instructed on the race page). I was eventually allowed to run the Half.
There were 2 water stations (which was 8 for the half, since it was out and back x 2), on the way out, they were unmanned, so you had to pour your own water. In addition, the water was warm… not just like room temperature, like actually warm. After the first go around, the stations were manned.
At the end, there were water bottle (again – sit in the “Texas sun” warm) and a table of rice krispy treats, fruit snacks, pretzels, etc – but it was in the back behind another table not obvious.
Over all, my Garmin tracked this as under 12.7 miles
Not recommended.
