This run happens during Garden Grove’s Strawberry Festival just prior to the parade. I have been trying to get around to it for a few years and I finally got to it at the last minute. I registered on site the day before at the PCRT Pacfic Coast Timing booth and received a confirmation email from Chronotrack but still somehow my timing was not recorded and my bib number did not show in the results. Probably a volunteer error but still disappointing.
On the day of the event there is plenty of free parking right by the start line. This will come in handy should you decide to stay for the Festival.
The run started on time at 8 am and the course runs through city streets with plenty of room for different levels of runners to get along. I didn’t see many “elite” runners out there but I think it might be good one for someone’s PR since the course is completely flat. There is not much scenery to speak of but the start and end at Historic Main Street has a nice early 1900’s feel. There is one water station at the midway point.
There is some swag at the end including a medal but – no – there are no strawberries to be had.
The Festival is a three day event with carney type rides and street style vendors. It officially opens at 10 am but many of the vendors opened early to accommodate the runners.
Not a good showing for me as I work through some stiffness issues.
Nice Neighborhood Race
