We were looking for something to do the Saturday before my wife participated in IM 70.3 Atlantic City on 9/12. This little gem of a run was perfect. Short drive from AC to Stone Harbor on the South tip of New Jersey in Cape May County. Stone Harbor is a beautiful and picturesque little town. I remember 9/11 very well. In Texas, we honor the holiday and the loss. The closer you get to NYC, the more personal and deep goes the remembrance. This event rang very personal. Many of the people there that ran had family members directly affected by the events of 9/11. The Bagpipe player was amazing and he said that he had played the pipes at so many of those funerals and events since 9/11. Very touching and we started at the Fire Station by the library. Not a dry eye at the start after the National Anthem, the Pipes, the pause and minutes of silence. Back to the race itself – super flat even by Texas standards. The only hill was a curb. T-Shirt was awesome and had a nice 9/11 Twin-Tower design – I wear it quite a bit. The unexpected “gimmee” was a commander coin representing Stone Harbor and 9/11 – very nice and professionally done. The Mayor of Stone Harbor was the medal giver at the awards ceremony and that was great as well. Nice to see such great community support.
Nice run on the South Jersey Shore
