This race supports a cause is important to the local area. And, St. Malachi is a Cleveland icon. Each year, thousands of runners (mostly local) come out to participate in this beloved race.
Mulberry’s, a new local bar, opened up their facility,pre-race, to provide warmth, restrooms and breakfast for the runners. Afterward, they provided post-race celebration and beer. This was a real plus for a chilly day.
The race shirt was provided by Sole Clothing which is a local shirt vendor that creates and sells premium shirts so soft you could live forever in them. In fact, their shirt pushed me over the edge in signing up for this race. The registration fee was equal to the retail value of the shirt! Love the design and I love the quality. This will definitely rank up there as a favorite shirt. Now since most of us runners might not give much thought to most of our race shirts, this is saying a lot.
The course wound it’s way through downtown Cleveland. Since most of us live here, this was not a terribly exciting route. And I’m fact it went straight out and straight back. Kinda boring. But it did go over some our pretty bridges so that was redeeming.
There is no medal for this race, but there is an incredible sense of community that surrounds it. It’s a gathering of first-time runners, competitors, friends and family that all live somewhere near you whether in Cleveland proper or one of the many suburbs.
One of the best local races out there.
Fun, festive, traditional, Irish
