Nice run. Course is just about flat. The only inclines are bridges. The day we ran, it was a heavy overcast, it had rained for a few days and rained (poured) the moment I crossed the finish line. The boat ride to the start was a first (in terms of getting to a start line) and running through a mediaeval village was pretty cool. Running by the finish line (mile 6.8 or so) was mentally rough but the stage set for the opera that was being performed was awesome and looked like “Nightmare before Christmas”. The people in the towns were really revved up and very cheery. Firemen or police at every single crossing. All very friendly. Switzerland was fun – they went all out on that section. The only downsides were we planned for the run at the end of twelve days (celebrating 36 years of marriage) instead of near the beginning and the run stating at 9:45 really did not allow me the opportunity to gauge my fueling properly and I ran out of energy at mile 14. I was on pace for a 4:00 – 4:10 until then. All in all – a very good experience. The medal was ok and the tshirt was an extra 30 Euro and no logo gear at the expo – so if you are looking for the SWAG – this is not your race. Looking for views and scenery – well worth it.
Nice course along Lake Constance
I would have preferred to run more along the coastline, which was a great scenery. Otherwise, it was well organized, although it was very crowded at the packet pick-up. MORE
