Southwest 100 Fort Davis, TX   Mar 25, 2023

Nestled in the historic Davis Mountains, the Southwest 100 starts on the legendary San Antonio-El Paso Road in the heart of Fort Davis National Historic Site. In the 1800s this remote outpost was set up by the U.S. Army as a refuge for travelers making the 600 mile journey by horse or wagon train. It was also home to the famous Buffalo Soldiers.

From Fort Davis you’ll climb a rocky, single track into the Davis Mountains as you enter Davis Mountains State Park. As the vast panorama opens up, you’ll take in the thin mountain air at over a mile high.

For those that go into the night, you’ll gaze at the same wide open, dark sky studied by the nearby McDonald Observatory.
