Runners, walkers, and ruckers are all encouraged to participate in the Shelli Huether Veterans Day Honor Run! You can register for the 5k, 10k, or 8-hour ultra marathon. The course is a 0.8-mile loop around Granny White Park. The 5k will be 4 loops (technically 3.2 miles). The 10k will be 8 loops (technically 6.4 miles). If you register for the 8-hour ultra marathon, the goal is to walk, run, or ruck as many loops as you can in that time frame. This is a chip-timed race.
TEAMS: There are 4-5 member RELAY TEAM registrations available for the 8-Hour Ultra. You can pick either run/walk or ruck. 1 person on each team runs/walks or rucks at a time.
INFO for the RUCKERS: You need to wear a rucksack/backpack with ruck plates/sandbags, etc or a weighted vest. If you are 151 lbs or greater, the pack/vest needs to weight 20 lbs. If you are 150 lbs or less, the pack/vest needs to weigh 10 lbs. You and your pack/vest will be weighed at check-in and at the finish.
COURSE DESCRIPTION & WEATHER: The 0.8 mile loop is paved and circles around the beautiful Granny White Park. The course has a few gentle hills. Temperatures range widely in the first half of November. Over the last few years, November 11th has seen temps from the 30s to the 60s.
FUNDRAISING: All funds raised in excess of expenses will be divided equally between two organizations: The National Guard Association of Tennessee and Lantern Lane Farm. All registrants have the opportunity to help fundraise for this event. DONATIONS ARE TAX-DEDUCTIBLE. Shelli Huether Honor Run Inc is a non-profit 501(c3) organization.
HISTORY: On September 8, 2020, Lieutenant Colonel Shelli Huether and two fellow Tennessee Air National Guard members (Captain Jessica Wright and Senior Master Sargent Scott Bumpus) were involved in a fatal plane crash in McMinnville, TN. Shelli had a servant’s heart and spent countless hours volunteering with the USO, Operation Stand Down, and many other charities and non-profit organizations. She also enjoyed running and pushed herself hard, always setting new running goals to achieve, which is one of the reasons we became such great friends. My goal with setting up this race & fundraiser is to honor Shelli and ALL veterans…while raising money for a couple of incredible charities in her name.
