Tooele County is home to the Serengeti/Oquirrh Wave trail system, situated at the feet of the Oquirrh Mountains. These courses will appeal to the beginner and experienced trail runner alike. You will traverse technical atv trails and beautiful single-track; take in sweeping views of the Tooele Valley, Great Salt Lake, and distant Stansbury Mountain Range; and enjoy the beauty and solitude of getting off the asphalt and onto the dirt.
The Course Layout
This year, the Serengeti Trail Races events will consist of 3 unique loops, each of which will take you out through the grassy foothills and wooded ravines, and bring you back to the Start/Finish Area, which will serve as your aid station.
Loop A will be approximately 6.45 miles, with ~1,250 ft of vert (45% dirt road/ATV trail, 38% single-track, & 17% double-track).
Loop B will be approximately 6.9 miles, with ~950 ft of vert (100% dirt road/ATV trail).
Loop C will be approximately 11.9 miles, with ~1,350 ft of vert (66% dirt road/ATV trail & 34% single-track).
The 50-mile course will be run PALINDROME style: Loop A, Loop B, Loop C, Loop C (reverse direction), Loop B (reverse direction), and finishing with Loop A (reverse direction).
The 50k course will be Loops A, B, C, then finishing with Loop A (reverse direction).
The Half Marathon course will be Loop A then Loop B.
The 10K course will be Loop A
These events, and especially the courses, are created to give you a beautiful, challenging experience, racing in the foothills and mountains of Tooele County’s Oquirrh Mountains!
The prices are low – no gimmicky race entry bags full of clutter you’ll never use; no finisher’s awards that will end up in a drawer somewhere; and no thumping music, announcing finishers over a PA, or flashy finish line arches.
The course is where it’s at. Each year, we like to keep things interesting by changing up the course routes! Always with an eye for scenery and the challenge: what will the runner see as they’re flying down wooded single-track or as they crest a tough climb? Would it be more of a challenge to climb a mild dirt road or a rocky, technical ravine trail? Each of these distances will treat you to challenging trail conditions and beautiful views of the surrounding Oquirrh & Stansbury Mountain Ranges, the Tooele Valley, and the Great Salt Lake, with Stansbury Island rising out of it.
Aid station(s) will be adequately stocked to help you get to the finish line.
The vibe will be very low-key; but you’ll face stiff competition, whichever distance you choose.
