Tooele County is home to the Serengeti/Oquirrh Wave trail system, situated at the feet of the Oquirrh Mountains. These courses will appeal to the beginner and experienced trail runner alike. You will traverse technical atv trails and beautiful single-track; take in sweeping views of the Tooele Valley, Great Salt Lake, and distant Stansbury Mountain Range; and enjoy the beauty and solitude of getting off the asphalt and onto the dirt.
The 50k course will consist of two 25k distance loops – the first loop will be run counterclockwise, with the second loop being run clockwise.
Runners will start out, southbound, crusing along the lower road, heading into the Serengeti Trail System; at mile 3, runners will pass through a green pedestrian gate, heading south, toward Churchwood Dr, then veer northeast, toward the Poleline Rd, a fun runner coaster section, which takes you back north, through the Serengeti; at mile 8.6, after visiting the aid station, runners will head east, up the wooded BBC trail; after traversing northbound along a dirt road section, runners will pass through another green pedestrian gate, climbing toward the mouth of Pole Canyon; at mile 11.1, runners will head northwest, descending the lower portion of the beautiful Pole Canyon trail; after descending into the Oquirrh Wave for 2 miles, runners will climb southwest, where another single-track section takes them to the home stretch, leading them to the Start/Finish Area.
To finish up, runners will repeat this loop, in clockwise direction.
These events, and especially the courses, are created to give you a beautiful, challenging experience, racing in the foothills and mountains of Tooele County’s Oquirrh Mountains!
The prices are low – we don’t give out gimmicky race entry bags full of clutter you’ll never use; we don’t hand out finisher’s awards that will end up in a drawer somewhere; and we don’t play thumping music, announce finishers over a PA, or display flashy finish line arches.
The course is where it’s at. Each year, we like to keep things interesting by changing up the course routes! Always with an eye for scenery and the challenge: what will the runner see as they’re flying down wooded single-track or as they crest a tough climb? Would it be more of a challenge to climb a mild dirt road or a rocky, technical ravine trail? Each of these distances will treat you to challenging trail conditions and beautiful views of the surrounding Oquirrh & Stansbury Mountain Ranges, the Tooele Valley, and the Great Salt Lake, with Stansbury Island rising out of it.
