A Central Lake, Michigan 4th of July event held in memory of Ryan Shay – a world class athlete who died from sudden heart failure 5.5 miles into the 2007 New York City Olympic Marathon trial. Ryan grew up in Central Lake and, while living there, ran virtually every road, hill, and byway in its beautiful surroundings.
Come join the fun and camaraderie of this festive day and make friend and family memories by participating in a 5K run/walk or 10K run point-to-point race, or 1 mile Fudgees Ice Cream Fun Run. After dusk, stay to watch one of the most beautiful firework displays in Northern Michigan.
Races begin at Thurston Park @ 7:00 PM and follow lakes, paths and country roads and end at the Central Lake Herrick Athletic Field on M-88; Fun Run @ 8:00 PM at Herrick Field. Both races will finish at the Central Lake High School track and football stadium located at Herrick Field just 1 mile south of town. The 5K is a run/walk. The 10K is a run only. The Fudgees 1 Mile Ice Cream Fun Run will take place on the track at 8:00 p.m.
Awards: Plaque awards to Overall and Masters male/female winners and medal awards to male/female places 1-3 in the following categories: (14 and under), (15-19), (20-24), (25-29), (30-34), (35-39), (40-44), (45-49), (50-54), (55-59), (60-64), (65-69), (70 and over)
Amenities: Restrooms and water available at start/finish lines; three 10K water stations; two 5K water stations; Music; Post-race bottled water and refreshments; Hose water available at finish site for cooling; Goody bag; T-Shirts guaranteed to all pre-registered entrants and available to race day registrants until supply runs out.
