Run Loco is a fun, albeit small, race taking place in East Tennessee. As it is smaller, production is limited and there isn’t much hype around the event. Still, you get to see plenty of eager runners and it’s an overall good experience.
There is a steepish uphill climb right before the end of the race that might kick your butt so keep yourself strong and well-trained!

This was an inaugural race. Only 50 marathoners, some 100 half and few more 5k racers signed up. It was a rainy day and It felt like half of the people that were suppose to race did not show up. Water stops were fairly evenly spaced out with plenty of water / Gatorade and some of them had GUs and other food. My garmin showed over 1800 ft of elevation gain. None of the hills were particularly challenging but they were never ending and one right after the other. First half of the race was somewhat scenic – course goes over 3 bridges and a dam. Second half felt half assed – they sent us out on a rural road with nothing to see there which made it very mentally challenging considering constant rolling hills. Race medal was very nice and there was chicken broth at the end with your usual carby junk food. Overall winners got hoodies and beanies, age group winners got coffee mugs.
