The Run for Amma raises funds for targeted cancer research, specifically for the UCSF BRCA Center at the Helen Diller Cancer Center/Ashworth Lab. In the BRCA center, scientists and clinicians work together to understand hereditary tumors caused by mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene, which consists of many ovarian, breast and gastrointestinal tumors.
100% of the registration proceeds will be donated directly to the UCSF BRCA lab.
The Run for Amma originated as a solo run to honor Champa Seshadri (“Amma”) who had terminal cancer as a means to raise money and awareness for cutting-edge cancer research. Amma was involved in the route planning for the inaugural year and was able to witness the finish of the run. She passed away a few weeks after the first run – but not before telling me to run this every year as a way to remember her strength and determination to live life to its fullest.
