This is a 5K on Wednesday evening at 6pm in Concord, NH which is my hometown where my parents live. I also did this race last year so that review has more details. This is a very fun race in downtown Concord with lots of spectator support and course entertainment. Overall the race is really fun and well-organized. The only production complaint I have is the running corral had signs to line up by pace but the slowest one was 9 minute/mile. There is a big difference between a 10 minute/mile and a 15 minute/mile and I was expecting to run 11-12 minute/mile and had no idea where to line up. The start was a bit congested due to multiple paces. A few more pace signs would have been helpful to get people lined up correctly. Otherwise no complaints about production. Weather was raining most of the day but it cleared up for the race. The race actually go quite hot at the end. I do think there were a bit more spectators and a few entertainment areas were empty due to the rain but there was still great support. The course is very hilly. This actually reminded me a lot of the Flying Pig but on a smaller scale in terms of course support and elevation profile of the course. I was a little slower than I hoped due to the hills and the heat at the end but was still almost 5 minutes faster than last year. There is no medal for the race but you get a nice shirt. There are also lots of local food vendors and you get two food tickets. I got pasta from one of my favorite local restaurants and a whoopie pie. Overall this is a really fun local race that I will continue to do as long as I am not traveling

This is a weekday evening race in my hometown Concord, NH that raises money for the cancer center there. I have done this race over a decade ago so I am technically a repeat runner though I can’t remember much about the first time I ran it. The race was on a Wednesday this year though in the past it had been on Thursdays. Wednesdays work great as I have office hours in the afternoon and can work from home so had time to get ready and drive to Concord for the 6pm start. My mom has a team and was the team captain so picked up the bibs. The packet also has a nice polyblend shirt. The race starts downtown in the grassy area in front of the state house. There were samples of Karma water and also food tents being set up. There is a separate timed run and untimed walk that have the same course but different start/finish lines and the walk starts about 10 minutes after the run. There were signs were to line up for each race. The start was pretty organized but this is a huge race as it seems like the entire town either participated, volunteers or spectated the race. They did have us line up by pace but I do think a few waves could have spread us out better. That is my only production complaint. Course is well marked on closed streets with mile markers and aid station in the middle. It is a fun race with a ton of spectators and a ton of musical acts on the course. There were more musical acts on this 5K course than I’ve seen on Rock’n’Roll half marathons. The course is nice through downtown and the hospital which is appropriate given its charity. However ugh it is hilly. I think this had as much elevation as my two races last weekend. There are a ton of participants and lots of back of packer so it’s fun despite the hills. My finishing time wasn’t great but I was faster than my last 5K a few weeks ago and this was a much harder course. The finish area is fun and there are tons of local restaurants with food sample and you get 2 food tickets. Overall this is a very fun race if you are in Concord, NH the evening of the race. As long as it is an evening I can get to Concord by 6pm I would definitely do this race again.
