REVEL Sun Valley Limited Edition is an in-person (non-virtual), Boston Qualifying, fully supported marathon and half marathon. This race will be offered one time only in this format in the beautiful resort town of Sun Valley, Idaho.
Registration closes at midnight on Monday, March 8th, 2021 and the race is capped at 499 registrants per day. Any race day that does not meet its cap of 499 registrants by March 8th will be cancelled and those who have registered for the cancelled day will receive a full refund. Similar to a Kickstarter campaign, each race day must reach its cap of 499 registrants by March 8th in order to proceed.
The REVEL Sun Valley Limited Edition marathon course offers the best of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, including breathtaking views of the forests and peaks high atop the mountains. Runners will enjoy the fresh scent of mountain air, glimpses of forest wildlife, and the charm of the Sun Valley resort town. If that were not enough, the course is downhill on a paved highway and is a Boston Marathon qualifier!
The marathon begins near Galena Summit roughly 26 miles north of Sun Valley. Standing at nearly 8,000 ft above sea level surrounded by towering pines and aspens, runners will experience the sunrise in one of the most pristine locations in North America.
The course begins with a strong downhill grade of 3.5% as it heads south on Highway 75 and passes Galena Lodge at mile 3. After passing the Lodge, the course settles in for a nearly constant smooth decline of 1.2% for the remainder of the race.
The only significant climb occurs at mile 13, where runners will encounter a short 45-foot climb as they pass the half marathon point. After cresting this small hill, it is all downhill to the finish line.

Badly wanted to get back to racing and found this gem. We love Sun Valley no matter what time of year it was and I was willing to pay a premium for the race and the location. I was in the Saturday group and in the first wave for the half (ie, bus at 4:30A and start at 5:30). While I certainly whined about that, I was glad it was the case. I was done before some of my family were even awake for the day! Packet pickup was small but with really helpful volunteers. Shirts were nice and you had a choice of tech or cotton. Additional swag included a nice thermal tumbler. The parking in the morning was easy and convenient. The buses were top notch (no school buses here!) and masks were required. Drove out to the start line and the bus dropped off the first wave. We all lined up single file and literally started one at at time. Running down the shoulder of 75 as the sun came up and the full moon set over the mountains was beautiful and quiet. Occasionally I’d pass or be passed but in general, it was like a run on my own which was great for pacing and time—no need to dodge and weave, no bad mannered runners running multiple abreast and failing to yield and no human loud speakers to contend with. Gentle downhill was nice and when you get into town, you know it’s all downhill from there. The run in to the finish is great and there is a great backdrop for pictures against the mountains. Absolutely loved this, love Revel and hope that this isn’t really a limited edition. My daughter ran her 20th (at age 20) and my son ran his first (at 18) on Sunday. Thank you Revel for catering to the race hungry and making it worthwhile!
Amazing beauty
