Race 13.1 returns to the Motor City for the second annual Flagstar Bank Race 13.1 Detroit half marathon, 10K and 5K event! The race will take place on the beautiful Belle Isle, a 985-acre island park situated on the Detroit River between the U.S. and Canada. The very flat and fast course will offer beautiful river and city views throughout the entire race, and it will start and finish next to the iconic James Scott Memorial Fountain.
With an average high of just 80 in mid July, Detroit will be an ideal location for runners of all abilities to add another race to their summer calendars. Belle Isle has plenty of attractions on site for runners and spectators of all ages, such as an aquarium, a giant slide and beach, a golf course and more!
In addition to the attractions at Belle Isle Park, the city of Detroit has offers plenty for locals and visitors alike, including a “coffee scene that could rival Portland’s,” museums such as the Detroit Historical Museum, which pays tribute to the city’s motor industry and history, and the Motown Museum, where you can stand in Studio A and relive the moments that made Detroit the home of Hitsville USA, plus so much more!
Course Highlights:
– Flat and fast course through Belle Isle!
– Beautiful views of the city and water throughout the course!

Fantastic course, mostly on road but some trail. Small number of runners. Signup on Friday was either at a race store 25 miles from Belle Island, or for two hours Friday night. I am not sure what they had at the store, but there was no expo or anything like that at the signup on Friday or, for that matter, after the race. On the other hand, it was a beautiful flat course and well organized.
