Once a thriving Chinese settlement subsisting off of shrimp fishing, China Camp is now a popular state park for boaters, runners/hikers, and mountain bikers. An extensive trail network will greet you with views of Mt. Tam, San Pablo Bay, and San Francisco Bay as you traverse twisting single-track trails, climbing up and over the peak.
The Peacock Gap courses wind along thick forests and descend out into open trails on the San Pablo Bay side of the park. Each race is relatively fast, with a nice punch of a climb beginning 1.5 miles into the course, leaving plenty of room to push it or just hike and enjoy the wild turkeys and sounds of the woods around you. China camp is a rare locale for a running race, so be sure not to miss this special event.
There is an 6 hour time limit for the 30K race. The Peacock Gap Trail Run will have a capacity of 300 runners, across all distances.

This was my second Half Marathon and the first at this course. Incredible scenery and a great day for the event. Had good clear weather. The course is not too challenging—primarily a single-track trail with some hills. The course was mapped out well, which made the run very enjoyable. I will participate again next year!

First time running with Inside Trail Run Racing. This race is held at China Camp in San Rafael. It was POURING rain before, during, and after the race. I ran the 5k. The race has about 250 ft of elevation gain/loss. The ground is hard pack dirt and not very technical. Because of the rain, there were many huge puddles. You had no choice but to run through, so after the first 30 seconds my feet were soaked. Strange thing was that there was no mud. My shoes were cleaner at the finish, than at the start. Course was well marked. The 5k did not have an aid station. This was fine because there was ample food at the finish line. Because it was cold and rainy, there was hot soup waiting for us. This really help to take away some of the chill from my wet feet and legs.
All finishers receive a gender specific tech tee and a very nice finisher’s medal. I finished first in my age group and received a medal for that.
I will definitely run with ITR again, The race was organized nicely.
