The Inca Trail Marathon race tour offers two epic trail race options (a full marathon and half marathon), beautiful mountain trail running, and unique challenges, adventures, and tours in Peru.
The Inca Trail Marathon is a very tough marathon!
We like to say “A Marathon in Distance but an Ultra in Effort”. This race is a highlight for every endurance athlete’s trail marathon calendar! You will be treated to breathtaking views of the Andes Mountains, and thousands of feet of vertical change with steep ascents and descents, with a max altitude of over 15,200 feet above sea level.
We thought why hike the Inca Trail when you can run on the Inca Trail! Join us in Peru!
This bucket list marathon is designed by experienced racers Erik and Myra Rasmussen. Erik’s Adventures was the first to host an official, accurate, and fully supported 26.2 mile marathon race on The Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Our 2012 inaugural event featured 41 runners. In 2023 the course was changed and does not use the Classic Inca Trail Anymore.
Course Overview
This adventure marathon is designed by experienced runners especially for racers.
The route is professionally measured, well marked, and supported with at least 3 well stocked aid stations. Our custom designed marathon race course is accurately measured to 26.2 miles. We have first-aid available at various locations and plenty of course marshals and race officials out on the racecourse.
This is one of the world’s most difficult marathons! The course takes the typical hiker 3.5 days and ascends multiple mountain passes, reaching a max elevation of 15,290 feet. You will be treated to breathtaking views of the Andes Mountains, Glacial Lakes, thousands of feet of vertical change, steep ascents and descents.

Billed as the world’s toughest marathon, it lived up to the expectations. You cover over 10,000 ft of elevation gain over the course including Dead woman’s pass at 13,8000 ft. If the altitude doesn’t get you then the multiple uneven stone steps will. Beautiful course with finish at Machu Picchu. Great tour and support with Erik’s adventures. Strict 12 hour cut-off to finish in one day-otherwise spend a second night on the trail to finish the next day.
