Epic, annual run…across the Bay of Fundy ocean floor!
Once or twice each summer on a weekend, the sea parts in the MinasBasin of Nova Scotia, dropping in six hours from 15 meters to nearly zero. When that happens, we start running. The 5K course loops out and back from Sand Point in Five Islands while the 10K course starts at Soley Cove and finishes with the 5k at Sand Point. Both runs have spectacular scenery! The Basket Run for the kids is a wonderful experience for those under 12. Buses will transport both 5k and 10k runners to their starts and parking for all (including volunteers and spectators) will be at the ball field in Five Islands, Highway #2 and well marked, with experienced volunteers directing you to your parking spot.
GOOD CLEAN MUD
If you’re a clean freak, please don’t come to our run. If you’re up for a bit o’fresh, authentic, ocean floor fun then this will be one of the most hilarious days of your life!
INTRODUCING MOSES
According to the bible, Moses held out his staff and the Red Sea parted. The Israelites walked on the exposed ground and crossed the sea. Twice each day the Bay of Fundy tides pull away billions of tonnes of sea water from the shores of Five Islands, Nova Scotia. On a rare day each summer, there is a tide ‘low enough’ for 1000 people to run across the ocean floor
RACING THE TIDES
It’s a ‘run for your life’ kinda thing here on the Bay of Fundy’s ocean floor. For just a few hours, on just a few days a year, the tides are low enough in this area of the bay to enable 800+ runners to safely experience the coast. It’s muddy, it’s rough, it’s crazy, it’s a riot. Join us for the real experience.
Our 10K run starts at the same time as our 5K run but it starts at its own location, on the east side of Economy Mountain in Soley Cove. The 10K finishes at the same finish line as the other runs, at our base in the Sandpoint Campground.
NOTE: You must be able to run a normal 10kin less than 1hr 15min or order to participate in our 10k. The tide will be coming in and there s not enough time to walk the 10k, nor take small children on the 10k.
All 10K runners, 5K runners/walkers, and all spectators park their cars at the Five Islands ball field and get bussed to their respective start locations. Buses will run for several hours after everyone gets to the finish line, so don’t rush off – stay and watch the tide come in over the course!
