The Northeast Kingdom Marathon is a FREE USATF certified self-supported half and full marathon designed to support Island Pond – a small former railroad town nestled deep within the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Following the lead of the innovative Millinocket Marathon – runners who participate are asked to be generous and support the Island Pond community and surrounding region in every way possible.
The act of giving can empower, uplift and restore. We think that’s worth running 26.2 miles for.
The half marathon completes one full loop of the course. The full marathon completes two full loops of the course. Both races start and end in the same location. Racers will start in downtown Island Pond, and head out to make a counter clockwise loop, plus a spur, around the lake. Pavement for the first 2 miles, beautiful gravel for the next 4 miles and then back to pavement for the remainder. Runners will get lake and mountain views in multiple locations. This fast course offers a bit of everything with some short hills, gradual climbs and gentle downhills.
While there will be traffic guards and volunteers in multiple locations, roads will be open to traffic as usual. Runners should use the left edge of road and use common sense regarding safety.
