Run along the scenic shore of Lake Erie and through the beautiful cottage country at the Mudcat Marathon Weekend!
The full marathon course (a Boston Qualifier if you run fast enough!) will run along the shore of Lake Erie, through Haldimand County’s cottage country, then up through some beautiful rural scenes to cross the Grand River at Cayuga. Certified by Athletics Canada, certification #ON-2016-142-BDC.
Hugging the river bank, there are a few rolling hills out of Cayuga, where the half marathon race joins the marathoners. The last ten kilometers of the race are almost entirely flat – on the Grand River delta to finish along the riverside in Dunnville. Certified by Athletics Canada, certificate #ON-2016-130-BDC.
Located in Southern Ontario, on the Grand River delta as it enters Lake Erie, Dunnville is a quaint little town in Haldimand County. An easy day trip from Hamilton, Toronto, Buffalo and Niagara, Dunnville is home to “Muddy” the Mudcat!

I have been participating in the Friday night Fishy 5k for the past few years. I was delighted this year when the race was expanded to a two-day event! I signed up for the Friday Fishy 5k and Saturday 10k. Kit pick-up was a breeze- the arena had ample free parking, and the volunteers were excellent! The Friday Fishy 5k was a nice out and back route out of scenic Dunnville. I stayed for the pasta dinner (yum!) after to fuel up for the next day. The Saturday 10k was a fast, flat course, again out of downtown Dunnville. Water stations were plentiful and the volunteers were so nice! It was a hotter then usual May day, so a car drove along the out and back course, handing out bottles of water. What a nice touch! Since I did the Friday night race and one of the Saturday races, I completed the “Mighty Mudcat Challenge” and in addition to my amazing medals for the 5k and 10k, I got a third HUGE medal for my efforts! (The race shirts were really nice as well!) After crossing the finish line and collecting my bling, I headed over for my free BEER! What an amazing couple of days! I can’t wait to go back and run the 5k/Half in 2018!
