Get ready for some of the most exciting and beautiful running trails in the Inland NW at the Mountain Magic Trail Run! Rolling trails, pine trees and whole lot of happy faces—what more could a runner ask for?
These trails are winding, rolling, and really really special. Most are wide ski trails through the pines. For the longer distances, there are a couple of minor peaks to summit. So while it’s runnable, there’s still enough elevation gain and loss to push you to your limit.
If you’re new to trail running, it’ll be a fun introduction to the joy of heading off the pavement. If you’re a seasoned trail runner, this is a race to remember.
This year brings a few exciting changes. The 5k and 10k courses have been updated, bringing a cool new trail with some more challenging elevation into the mix.
The 5k option remains a great way for adults, youth and kids who have never run trails or entered a trail race to make the move from pavement to dirt, on some of the most beautiful, winding parts of the run.
Mountain Magic Trail Marathon
Check it out! Spokane’s first trail marathon (that we know of, at least). Head up Sunday to test your legs on this sweet 2-loop course. There’s minimal overlap between the loops, and they’ll take you through most of the Nordic ski trail park. About half the marathon is on mountain roads with views across the valley and the rest is on those magical wide rolling trails.
Elevations
> 10k: approx 1100 ft gain
> 25k: approx 2450 ft gain total
*HOWEVER The rolling course makes it deceptively challenging.
New this year:
> Medals. Trail races typically don’t have medals but you’ve been asking for them, so we’re delivering! AND everyone who’s run Mountain Magic in past years will get a special medal for that number of years (if you register by May 20).
> 35k Grand Tour. Looking for a trail marathon, a challenging warmup for your summer ultra, or just a fun hard run? 35k is an odd distance, but that’s what it takes to cover almost all the best running trails in the Nordic ski trail system. We’re calling it the Grand Tour.
It’s the 10k loop last year’s winner called “The best trail race I’ve ever done!” and the 25k loop last year’s runners gave a rating of 9 our of 10 and one runner said was “challenging but you could still press the pace.” Are you up for the challenge?
> T-shirt design competition. Want a free entry for you and a running partner? Enter the t-shirt design competition. If your design is chosen, you run for free and get a hoodie! *more info coming soon
