Mount Annapurna Adventure Marathon

A multi-sport event from the high alpine of the Annapurna Basecamp to the lush green vegetation of Pokhara. The Annapurna Sanctuary is famous for its traditional villages with warm locals and expansive, incredible views.

The Mount Annapurna Adventure Marathon is a tribute to two of Nepal’s great pioneers, the late Dr. Harka Bahadur Gurung and Mr. Maurice Herzog. Dr. Gurung, an expert on mountain tourism, was the first Tourism Minister of Nepal and oversaw the development of Nepal’s trekking industry and opening of many previously restricted regions along Nepal’s long northern border with China and Tibet. Mr. Maurice Herzog, a mountaineering legend, was the first person to climb Mount Annapurna and the first climber of an 8,000 meter peak on June 3, 1950. Both men have contributed tremendously to the development and promotion of tourism in Nepal and our Annapurna Adventure Marathon strives to honor their sense of adventure and athletic accomplishment.

Along with our partners in Kathmandu, One World Trekking is proud to launch this new and unique multisport adventure. After a beautiful trek to the Annapurna Sanctuary, we have timed the trip so the marathon begins from Annapurna Base Camp on June 3, 2018 in order to celebrate Maurice Herzog’s great mountaineering accomplishment. Starting beneath the enormous South Eastern Face of Mount Annapurna I (8091 meters), group members will traverse, criss-cross and descend through the highland regions of the great Annapurna Range.
