The Midwest Everest is without a doubt the most difficult 100 mile run in West Michigan. With over 29,000 feet of ascent and an equal amount of descent runners should prepare to have your legs, mind and spirit challenged.
Trail Conditions
Mostly packed single track and a very small amount of sand and grass field.
Race Format
This event consists primarily of short “everesting” loops up the the Cannonsburg Quad and down the Double ski runs. Runners will also run additional 2 mile loops through the trail system to break up the everesting loops and spread runners out. When you choose to run the 2 mile loops is entirely up to you.
Aid Stations/Drop Bags
There will be an Aid Station at the start/finish with Skratch hydration mix and chews located at the bottom of the ski hill between the two ski runs. There will be port-a-pottys for racers and crew here as well.
You will run through this and have access to your crew every loop.
The start/finish aid station will have access to your crew and a dedicated area for drop bags.
Event Details
The race will feature two ultra distances and a relay. They all will take place over the two days.
Full Everest – 100 miles and over 29,000ft/29,000ft gain/loss. 152 “everesting” loops and four, 2 mile, trail loops on wooded single track that can be run at any time during the race. 36 hour cutoff.
Base Camp – 50 miles and over 14,500ft/14,500ft gain/loss. 76 “everesting” loops and two, 2 mile, trail loops on wooded single track that can be run at any time during the race.
Base Camp Relay – 50 miles and over 14,500ft/14,500ft gain/loss. 76 “everesting” loops and two, 2 mile, trail loops on wooded single track that can be run at any time during the race. Four runners to a team. Laps can be split up between runners any way they would like.
The Hill Segment is a 0.6 mile loop with 200 ft of elevation and Trail Segment is a single track trail of ~2 miles through the woods. When entered into certain sites, elevation and distance totals may vary.
Awards
100 mile finishers will receive a custom made buckle, 50 mile runners and relay runners will receive finisher medals. Overall winners of each category will receive a custom gift and gift card from Gazelle Sports.
Cut-Off Details
Because of the short proximity to the start/finish runners will be allowed to continue through the race up until the final cut-off time. All races will end on Sunday at 7pm.
Pacers
No pacers will be allowed for any distance. Given the short distance of the loop we have limited space for our runners. You will frequently pass through the start/finish and have access to your crew and the aid station.
Crew
Crew is encouraged to come out, have fun and support your runner. You will see your runner every loop at the start/finish.
We also encourage crews to bring tents or canopies for your crew and runner to stay out of the elements. There will be specified areas for tent set up.
The Cannonsburg deck will be open with drinks and food during the day.
