The start line was in the low 50’s but they had space blankets and were handing them out to runners as they were getting off the shuttle bus. The first half of the race is rolling down hill and very pretty. But about an hour in it warmed up to 70+ deg and there was little to no shade/tree coverage. It was a great race. Will be back next year.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!

If you are a sea-level runner like I am but concerned about the elevation (races begins at 9,000 ft), don’t worry about it! The first 6 miles is mostly downhill so even though it’s a lot of altitude, gravity helps. Just slow yourself down, converse some energy, and all is good.
Every mile of this race is a different view and the course is simply breathtaking.
Shuttles run from Sierra Nevada hotel promptly. Beware, even though it’s June, it’s VERY chilly up at Horseshoe Lake where it starts. Last year, they provided space blankets which was nice. Things warm up quickly though once you get moving.
Lots of snacks at the end and a nice post-race atmosphere. Highly recommend the Mammoth Half!
