Due to the unique multi-loop course setup, there is one giant “aid station,” with more food and drink than you could ever need! Ask anyone who’s run at least one of our races; we’ve got everything from fruit to jelly beans to sandwiches, water to Gatorade to hot coffee, and everything in between. Way more than just granola bars and bananas – we even have our very own mobile kitchen, Loony Lunchbox!
Every participant (full or half marathon) will receive one t-shirt and other fun goodies. All finishers will receive a separate medal for each day; in addition, we give a special medal to those who complete all races in a series. We even give a special award to each person participating in his or her first full or half marathon! The best part: The famous caboose, given to the final finisher of each marathon and half marathon!
The Columbus-Belmont State Park (the site of the race) is picturesque! The primary attraction in the park is General Polk’s giant chain, which is estimated to have been over a mile long before flooding and erosion destroyed part of it. The anchor weighs between four and six tons and each chain link is eleven inches long. Another attraction at the park is the remains of the “Lady Polk,” a giant experimental cannon named for Polk’s wife. At 10 feet long and 15,000 pounds, the imposing gun bombarded Ulysses S. Grant’s troops at the Battle of Belmont. If staff is available, they will open the museum for us. Anyone with the slightest interest in Civil War history will enjoy all that the park has to offer.

This was one of my favorite races to date. Course is a simple out and back loop with a great aid/water/food station at the beginning/turn. It’s not competitive, just a group of folks working through the week. I only did this one day, but I’m making plans to do a full week in the coming years. Great race series!
