Brought to you by the creators of Gunstock Trailfest! Join the first annual Mad Fox Trailfest this June at the Waterville Valley Ski Resort. Experience a weekend of crazy fun through the “paw” dropping landscapes of scenic New Hampshire.
Day 1 – Trail Races: Take the scenic route with the whole family on Saturday, at one of five running events. With various distance options, there’s something for everyone (even Grandma) on the half marathon, 10K, NEW 6.03K, Canicross 6.03K run, or Kids 1-Mile run courses.
After earning your finisher’s medal, celebrate at the post-race party, where you can enjoy complimentary craft beer (21+), snacks, and live music.
Day 2 – Vertical Challenges: Looking for more than just a trail run? Get ready to go MAD on Sunday and take on one of our four vertical challenges! Climbers can adventure up the equivalent of Mt. Monadnock, take on Mt. Washington, conquer Mt. Olympus, or defy the odds as they climb Mt Fuji.
The Mad Fox Vertical Challenge is a series of four different races measured in vertical feet instead of horizontal distance. Participants may choose to complete the 3,000’, 6,000’, 9,000’, or 12,000’ challenge.
The course is a grueling climb from the base of the Tecumseh Express Chairlift up a gravel access road to the peak of the chairlift. With an average grade of 18% and a 1,578 foot vertical climb, the gravel access road between the base and the peak of the chairlift is approximately 1.82 miles long.
Upon ascending the road, participants will then ride the chairlift back down to the base and repeat the process until they’ve completed the challenge: 3,000’ race (2 ascents), 6,000’ race (4 ascents), 9,000’ race (6 ascents), 12,000’ race (8 ascents).
The time taken during the chairlift ride down the mountain will not be counted. The start of each race will begin at the base of the chairlift and will finish in an area near the peak. The 12’ wide access road is composed of dirt and gravel and is mostly level with no sharp twists or turns. The road follows alongside wide-open alpine ski trails covered in tall grasses and wildflowers with little shade provided by the woods.
Participants will be treated to amazing views of the Waterville Valley below and surrounded by thousands of acres of White Mountain National Forest land and six of New Hampshire’s famed 4,000-footer mountains.
Once you’ve met the challenge, an epic post-race party featuring a BBQ meal, complimentary craft beer (21+), live music, and amazing views of the White Mountains National Forest will be waiting for you!
