The Largest Reverse Triathlon in the USA! Distances are 5K run, 13.1 mile bike, and 200 meter pool swim. Due to the popularity of the event, two waves are offered with different start times depending on finishing time or category. Special optional categories include Athena (Women 150 lbs.+), Clydesdale (Men 200 lbs.+) and Challenged Athletes Division with event start at the 2nd wave.
All Triathlon participants must attend the mandatory meeting prior to event wave start. Triathlon participants should bring their own swim cap. Minimum age limit for the Reverse Triathlon is 12 years old. All participants must wear a helmet for the bike portion, no exceptions. All finishers in each event will receive a Race on the Base finisher’s medal.
The 5K/10K course is located on the Joint Forces Training Base runways. Helicopters, planes and military vehicles will line portions of the course. Separate 100% flat courses. Run next to strawberry fields and 3 golf courses. All 5K/10K events have a maximum time limit to finish in 1 hour and 30 minutes.
10K participants should report to the Start Line. 5K Run and 5K Walk will have a staging area marked with signs of each event. Once the 10K has started, the 5K participants will be escorted to the Start Line. It is important to not mix in with participants in other races. Please find your correct staging area near the Start Line.
Strollers are allowed in the 5K/10K, but for safety purposes, participants with strollers must line up behind those participants without strollers at the Start Line. All finishers in each event will receive a Race on the Base finisher medal.

This is a nice experience for the family. The course is open and very fast. It is a low cost family friendly PR course. Not a big production, but is a fun place for everyone in the family to participate. It’s a unique, well-produced event that everyone in the Southbay should try at least once.

Get the whole family involved. Safe easy in and easy out. No parking fees. Definitely a PR course. No beer garden post race. Medal we’re just a step above a children’s toy. However, the price is cheap and it’s a fun environment. I do this event every year and will continue to.

The general consensus is that it’s flat, which is true, but I don’t think it’s as uninteresting as others have stated. The scenery around the base is lovely and surprisingly green & the random helicopters parked were fun. The medal is also super cool, but I’m probably just easily amused by spinning medals. There are food trucks at the expo, which I approved of.
I will 100% agree with those who said to get there extra early. It took at least forty five minutes to get from the street to parking.

This is my 4th year running and first time doing the 10K. Running on an actual military base is a different experience. The course on the airstrip is extremely flat and wide. As expected, entering the facility takes some time as you ID is checked as you enter. The race producers suggest arriving an hour early due to this but I would suggest even more.
New this year was a kid’s 1K with a glow theme which was held the night before during packet pick up. Event day runs are the 5K, 10K and a Reverse Triathlon. The 10K start time was 7am with the 5K following a bit later and Reverse Triathlon participants are held until about 8:45am after the other runners finish.
The production itself is very good with a great tech shirt and great medal. The expo itself was very lackluster, however, and I do miss the meal that was no longer part of the race this year. I want my breakfast burrito! Denny’s was also no longer a sponsor this year.
They have a medal challenge if you run this race along with the Seal Beach Run in April and the City of Cypress Run in July.
