Each year the Laurel Highlands Ultra race is held on the second Saturday in June. The races will start in Ohiopyle, PA, with the 70.5 mile individual and relay races running the entire length of the trail and the 50K races finishing at the 31 mile point near the intersection of Route 31. All of the races are point-to-point along the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail.
The 70.5M race traverses the entire Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail in southwestern Pennsylvania, combining beautiful scenery with challenging terrain. The course is divided into five sections, with checkpoints at the end of each section, the fifth checkpoint being the finish. There will be strict cut-off times at each of the checkpoints. The time limit for the entire race is twenty-two hours.
The 50k course will follow the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail, terminating at the Trailhead near Route 31. This is a point-to-point race. We will have bus transportation available prior to the start of the race. The bus will pick up runners near the 50K finish area and transport them to the start line, before the race. There will be no transportation after the race. Since it is a point-to-point race, runners are welcome to bring a crew. There are designated parking areas at each of the checkpoint/aid stations, which must be utilized. The Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail is a state park, and we are fortunate to receive a permit to run the race. Failure to use the designated parking areas could result in a revocation of our race permit.
The 50K race has a ten (10) hour time limit for completion, with a time cut-off of six (6) hours at the mile 19 aid station. Runners will be required to be out of the mile 19 aid station within six (6) hours (1:30 P.M.) in order to be allowed to continue in the race.
