The Lake Michigan Marathon course is USATF-certified and a Boston Marathon qualifier. This will be one of the last races to quality for Boston before its mid-September cutoff date. Capacity for all 4 events combined is 1,200 runners.
All events will take runners on a unique journey on the scenic trails along the South Shore of Lake Michigan. Runners will experience the Oak Leaf Trail and the Seven Bridges Hiking Trail. The course will start and finish at Sheridan Park in Cudahy and also go through four other Milwaukee County Parks: Warnimont Park, Grant Park, Bay View Park and South Shore Park. The majority of the course is on the flat, paved Oak Leaf Trail, but the portions on the hiking trails will be a little more challenging. Still, this is the perfect race for beginning or inexperienced trail runners.
There will be two sections of the course: a 9.5-mile loop to the south from Sheridan Park to Grant Park and back; and a 6.8-mile out-and-back to the north from Sheridan Park to South Shore Park. Runners in all four events will start with the 9.5 loop to the south. Details of each course are as follows:
– Marathon – 9.5-mile loop to the south, 6.8-mile out-and-back to the north, 9.5-mile loop to the south, plus extra mileage in Sheridan Park to finish.
– Half Marathon – 9.5-mile loop to the south, 3.6-mile out-and-back to the north.
– 50k – 9.5-mile loop to the south, 6.8-mile out-and-back to the north, 9.5-mile loop to the south, 5.4-mile out-and-back to the north
– 20-mile Training Run – 9.5-mile loop to the south, 6.8-mile out-and-back to the north, 3.7-mile out-and-back to the south
All runners will receive a high-quality technical shirt and goody bag, and all finishers will receive a medal.

I traveled to this race with a friend to check off Wisconsin. We flew into Chicago and drove into Milwaukee.
This is a great small town race.
COURSE: The course was along the lake in and out of trails, gravel roads and some paved paths. It’s basically an out & back with a section in the middle that you did twice. The single track section was very narrow (as in inches!) and there was one spot where the course crossed itself. It was confusing but the volunteers were there to direct you. Another section was literally inches from the edge of a cliff! Amazing views of Lake Michigan!!
The medal was great. Post race area was nice as well. Nothing stands out as awesome for this race, so I probably wouldn’t return. But if I ended up doing the states again, I wouldn’t mind repeating this one.
