The Lake Martin 100 will be held at Russell Crossroads on Lake Martin, one of America’s most beautiful lakes. The run will be entirely on the private lands of the Russell Forest Trail System near Alexander City, in East-Central Alabama. This race will be the perfect “First” 100 or 50 mile trail race. Race planning is easy with four 25 mile loops on rolling hills and very runnable trails. 100% of the course is on trails, carriage paths and gravel roads, most of which do not allow cars. Approximately 80% of the run is on single track trails. Several miles of each loop are along the shores of the Lake Martin and creeks flowing into the lake. While the Lake Martin races are all excellent first ultras, it is not an easy course. The 100 will have almost 14,000 feet of elevation gain. The hills may be small but they never stop. Be prepared!
Standard aid station food and Tailwind will be available at both aid stations all day. We will add sandwiches, hot soup and quesadillas in the afternoon. An assortment of hot food, coffee, hot chocolate and chicken and pasta soup will be available at the Cabin and Heaven Hill Aid Stations starting about dark and continuing all night. The Cabin will add Santa Fe Soup and a Grits Bar with bacon, eggs and waffles during the early morning hours. The grits bar will remain open with fresh, hot food until the last finisher crosses the finish line.
All one hundred mile finishers will receive hand crafted, custom belt buckles. Fifty and twenty seven mile finishers will earn custom finisher medals. Place awards will be given out as runners finish their perspective races.
The Lake Martin 100 was designed from the ground up to be the perfect step-up from a 50K to a 50 mile or from a 50 mile to your first 100 mile trial race. Our goal is your success. We promise to do everything in our power to help you accomplish your ultra goal, whether that goal is to run your first ultra, the 27 Mile Fun Run, or to break 21 hours in the 100. We also pledge to make your race experience Fun! The race will be hard. All those beautiful hills become steeper and longer with each successive lap. Those gentle carriage paths become very long about mile 80. But if you have put in enough training miles, we will encourage you, push you, help you, and even yell at you if necessary, to get you to the end. We might even let you rest occasionally. If you are ready, you can do it.
