Runners, Kirkwood’s Thunder Mountain Trail Challenge is entirely run at high elevation and much of the course is exposed. The sun is much more radiant at the higher elevations so please dress accordingly and wear sunscreen. The course is very mountainous and very technical in some sections. Any drop bags please protect due to the possibility of thunderstorms.
Weather is very unpredictable.
Runners Please be ready for hot or cold temperatures, snow, rain, Thunder showers, lightening, hail.
Drop bags 2 locations: the Thunder Mtn TH aid station & the Horse Canyon Trail aid station.
All runners at all times need to carry enough water & supplies to be self sufficient between aid stations.
The entire course is High Sierra single track Trail beyond mind blowing with panoramic views.
Race starts at the Kirkwood Lodge at 7800 ft & some of the distances will go up to around 9500 ft.
This course is extremely challenging and is run at high elevations.The course starts at the Kirkwood Lodge and runs on pavement for around 0.2 miles leading to a single track trail, then from there it is all single track trail going up. If you like the High Sierra and are into an incredible challenge, please come and play on Thunder Mtn. You will absolutely love this new event.
