Started in 1980, the Kansas City Corporate Challenge (KCCC) is an Olympic-type event that allows companies throughout Kansas City to interact with each other through a variety of sporting events. As the first and largest corporate games in the country, KCCC has grown from 18 companies in 1980, to 220 companies and over 33,000 individual participants in 2018. Those involved represent an employee base of over 150,000 Kansas City individuals. Thousands more are spectators and several thousand more act as volunteers to assist with the Games. Altogether, the KCCC Games have more than twice as many competitors as the Olympic Games themselves!
The KCCC 5K will start and finish at Burns and McDonnell. The 5K is held along Ward Parkway. It is a loop course that utilizes each side of Ward Parkway with the turnaround at 83rd Street. Each company is allowed to enter two male and two female participants in each of the following age categories: 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 & 70+.
Runners will line-up in waves based on their estimated finish time(s). Waves will go off approximately every minute until all the runners are on the course. Signs will be placed throughout the starting line and announcements will be made concerning how to line-up. Since chip timing will be used for the start and finish, regardless of which wave you start in, your start time will be when you cross the starting line.
The philosophy of the KCCC has always been to promote employee fitness and recreation within the Kansas City business community. No other event offers the diversity of sporting opportunities that are provided by the Kansas City Corporate Challenge. We offer something for everyone. Recreational activities such as darts, horseshoes and fishing are represented as well as competitive athletic events such as softball, volleyball, swimming, and running.
Aside from the personal benefits to everyone who is involved in the Games, each year a Kansas City-based charitable organization is chosen to benefit financially from KCCC. With a portion of every 2018 company registration, KCCC was able to donate over $27,000 to their charity partner, Special Olympics Kansas City Metro.
The 2019 season will involve over 240 companies from April-June and will be played at iconic Kansas City locations including the Truman Sports Complex, Kansas Speedway, and Shawnee Mission Park.
