James Cunningham Seawall Race

The James Cunningham Seawall race is the oldest consistently run race in the city of Vancouver. Runners will start at Second Beach in Stanley Park Seawall and make their way clockwise around the park​ as they have done for 4​6​ previous years, with the race finishing back at Second Beach. The event is named in honour of James Cunningham, a master stonemason who directed work on the Seawall project for 32 years. While he did not live to see its completion in 1971, Lions Gate Road Runners named their iconic race to recognize his life’s work. The Vancouver Running Festival​ is proud to partner and collaborate with this local club, and have runners continue to experience and contribute to the ongoing legacy of this race.
