I don’t run many 5k’s but when I heard about this one, I signed up instantly!
This race has a specific purpose that is near and dear to my Soul, help save rescued pets. The race is named after the race directors; Danielle Hurtado’s rescue cat, Jade.
Danielle wanted to do more for rescues and her rockstar husband (I wanna be like you when I grow up Jonathan!) came up with the idea of a Race FOR Rescues.
What impressed me most was the thought and work that went into this. The race had several sponsors which covered the expenses of a race. This enabled the Hurtado Clan to completely donate all the entry fees we contributed directly to the pockets of two great local rescues. How cool is that?!
Okay, the race itself.
Communication was great leading up to the race, week of we received a pair of well written emails with complete instructions and directions for the event.
The route is a straight out and back on the Pacific Electric Trail in Rancho Cucamonga, California. You had a choice to run either on a paved bike path or a packed crushed gravel walking path. I opted for the gravel.
It is an intimate race with a hard limit of 150 participants, with that being said, a lot of positive energy!!
The course is flat and fast, with signs along the way of various rescue dogs and cats up for adoption and an occasional humorous motivations sign. I wasn’t running this for the scenery, but it was still quite nice.
I hope the Hurtado’s run this race again next year, and I highly recommend signing up if they do.
Thanks Danielle and Jonathan for a fantastic morning, Racing for Rescues!!
Jade's Humans Crushed It!
