The Heart of Lakeland

Tahko is a lively holiday resort in the heart of the Finnish Lakeland area known for its pure nature, colorful events, joyful activities, high-quality accommodation, great food and friendly hospitality. Now, it is also home to the world’s northern-most IRONMAN race featuring a crystal-clear lake swim and rolling bike and run through Finland’s gorgeous countryside.

Swim
The single-loop 3.8 km (2.4 mile) swim takes place in the pristine water of Syväri lake in the protected Tahko Bay. The area of Kuopio-Tahko is known as the heart of Finnish Lakeland, making the swim in one of its beautiful lakes a fitting start to the race. The race start is conveniently located close to the finish line, making it easily accessible for athletes and supporters.

Bike
The two-loop 180.2 km (112 mile) undulating bike course takes athletes through typical Finnish landscape and between forest, lakes and fields. The rolling bike course includes a total climb of 1100 meters (3,608 feet) and is nestled between the forests and fields of the Middle Finland landscape. The two loops of 85 km (53 miles) are connected to a 5 km (3.1 mile) segment connecting transition to the bike course. This is the perfect sight-seeing of the spectacular landscape on two wheels!

Run
The four-loop 42.2 km (26.2 mile) run course stays close to Tahko and is very spectator friendly allowing spectators and family to get up close to the action. The rolling hills of the course course features approximately 60% running on asphalt and 40% on firm gravel.
