Fishing Village Charm
Punta del Este is a quiet, approachable city that combines the charm of a fishing village with the glamour of a European seaside resort. Situated on Uruguay’s coastline, the city offers marvelous views and a boutique race that gives athletes the personalized attention they deserve.
The swim takes place in the current-less waters of the Maldonado Bay, with a beach start that takes place only a few meters from the Conrad Resort and transition area. A fast 1.9-km loop takes swimmers parallel to the coast to the port area before returning to the beach. The sandy beach and wooden decking overlooking the course provides the ideal platform for spectator viewing.
Out of transition, athletes will follow the flat and stunning coastline towards Punta Ballena Hill, passing by one of the most popular sights in Uruguay, Casapueblo, the house of the internationally renowned Uruguayan artist, Carlos Paez Vilaro. The two-loop course will see cyclists tackle the Punta Ballena Hill four times, before returning to the transition area in front of the beach in the town.
The picturesque run course takes athletes along the coast line to the point where two oceans, Rio de la Plata and the Atlantic, meet. In addition, runners will pass by the city’s famous fish markets, prestigious yacht port, multiple restaurants and “Los Dedos”, an iconic sculpture of a giant hand emerging from the sand, and one of Uruguay’s most recognizable landmarks. The finish line is situated only a few meters away from Punta del Este’s most famous streets; Calle 20 and Gorlero. The setting is perfect for supporters and locals to cheer the athletes home.
