Swim
Subaru IRONMAN 70.3 Canada will feature a self-seeded rolling start. Athletes will enter the water in a continuous stream through a controlled access point, similar to how running road races are started. An athlete’s time will start when they cross timing mats under the arch. Athletes will be directed to self-seed on race morning based on their projected swim time. Volunteers and staff will be in the staging area with signs and will assist with this process. Self-seeding will not be mandatory, but will be encouraged.
The swim course will take place in the clean, shallow waters of Alta Lake at Rainbow Park – just a short drive from Whistler Village. It will be a rolling start, and all swim buoys must be kept on the left. Athletes will not be required to exit the water to begin their second loop. The water temperature ranges between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius throughout the summer months. Expect a comfortable wetsuit-legal swim.
Bike
The new Subaru IRONMAN 70.3 Canada single-loop bike course will bring athletes to the 2010 Winter Olympic ski jumping and Nordic venue. The nature of the new course routes will allow spectators to cheer and support the athletes seven times (three times for the Subaru IRONMAN 70.3 Canada) throughout the bike portion of the race.
Run
The one-loop, 21.1km (13.1mi) run course follows the meandering Valley Trail past Lost Lake and famous Green Lake. Spectators are able to reinvigorate athletes as they return through Whistler Village before finishing adjacent to Whistler Olympic Plaza on Blackcomb Way.
