America’s sweetest run is back for our most indulgent Hot Chocolate Run season yet in Charlotte this February! With 5K, 10K, and 15K distances and a post-run party that’ll make you go cocoa crazy, you and your friends will experience the ultimate chocolate celebration!
Charlotte Chocoholics will start and finish their run in the First Park District—only a block away from the famous Spectrum Center! But before you cross the finish line, you’ll tour beautiful Charlotte suburbs like Country Club Heights, Villa Heights, and Plaza Midwood (15k course), with 5k runners getting a sweet treat on their run through Belmont.
What would a CHOCOLATE run be without the CHOCOLATE? The sweetest award awaits you at the finish line. (And no, we aren’t talking about that well-deserved medal!) Indulge in a finisher mug overflowing with chocolate fondue, dippables, and, of course, our famous HOT CHOCOLATE!
Discover a chocolate-lover’s oasis at the post-run party at First Ward Park! You’ll celebrate in one of Charlotte’s newest urban parks with music, vendors, and a Chocoholic finisher’s mug full of fondue, dippables, and hot chocolate.

Overall the race was nice. I did the 5k not much scenery on the course but plenty of hills. The expo was okay needed more vendors. After race party had a good DJ who knew how to get the crowd moving and there was plenty of chocolate. The swag was excellent love the jacket and medal. I do want to do more races in the series.
Starting slip :(

This was my third year running the HC Charlotte. This review is just for the race day itself, the awards, and the social media following.
First of all, there should be better parking for packet pick up. It’s a mess trying to figure out where to park, and pay for parking- this race is large enough there can be an agreement regarding parking with one of the decks close by.
As a third yr participant, I am awarded something for my continued patronage. I have received nothing and will have to hound someone down for an answer.
Speaking of awards, it’s ridiculous that there’s no awards for top 3 of each age group! Only the top person in each age group is awarded a free registration for the next year- which again, you need to hound them down to get it.
HC social media following is huge! The Charlotte race STILL has not been featured on their IG page and as of this writing it is March 26th.
It’s impossible to get any reply on anything via email. Which is CRAZY bc their communication for everything else is good.
For the course- it’s super hilly Charlotte and there’s no way around it. The 5k course is TOO long, coming at .12 meters (200 meters) too long according to my Garmin And Strava.
A Con is that I felt is important is in the years prior this year was the most lacking in the race hype. Previous years were much more pumped up- many more people cheering on the course.
Last con is the HC volunteers screaming at us to move in the area where we would eat our chocolate.
Pros- lots of giveaways at the finish this year. The pictures are always a treat. The food is always yummy.
Not as big as the one in Nashville

Route was fair and just had some rolling hills. Not too difficult. Corrals were confusing at first. ABC was for the 5K and DEF etc…was for the 15K. Should have just left them like the 5K. Still had people trying to catch up for the 5K as we were about to start the 15.
The after stuff was the same as Nashville 17 but less items in the sales tents and not as many vendors and the location was quickly turning into a mosh pit due to the weather.
Overall not a bad run certainly not as crowded as Nashville which is not a bad thing.
Supposedly there is a program that rewards repeat races but it is for the same location and it should also include if you run different locals. That maybe a better incentive for people to travel to the other locations to run this event.
