Beyond Limits Running, the producer of the nationally recognized Jackpot Ultra Running Festival in Southern Nevada, is proud to announce the annual Happy Hippie Harvest Run will take place at the iconic Gilcrease Orchard in Las Vegas. Not only will happy hippie runners have an opportunity to run a 5K, 10K, half-marathon and marathon through this historic 90-year old orchard, but for those wanting to really go beyond limits, a 12-hour timed race will again be available!
Runners will work-up a healthy hippie appetite as they run past apples, pears, peaches, cucumbers, sweet potato, squash, eggplant and of course the famous Gilcrease Orchard pumpkins. Since the 3.1 mile flat and fast course meanders through the entire 67-acre orchard, runners will have a chance to get their happy hippie on as they say hello to the resident chickens, tortoises, bees and owls. This is your chance to don your best hippie running attire and join your fellow hipsters as you run the Happy Hippie Harvest Run.
The 12-hour race starts at 7:00 AM, while the half-marathon and marathon starts at 9:00 AM. The 5K and 10K both start at 10:00 AM. All races are run within Gilcrease Orchard and the Orchard is closed to the public on race day. There is ample free parking located in the paved parking lot directly adjacent to the orchard entrance. The 3.1-mile race course is entirely contained within the orchard with 95% of the course run on newly paved asphalt paths that are 10-15 feet wide. 5% of the course runs through the pumpkin patch on packed dirt. Don’t let the happy hippie theme fool you! With an elevation gain/loss of just 20 feet per loop, this course is flat, fast and ideal for setting new PR’s at all distances.
To ensure a quality race experience for all hippies and to protect the sanctity of this special orchard, the combined number of race participants will be capped at 350 runners/walkers. Since the race is run on wide paths with ample room to pass other runners, the race is walker and stroller friendly. We do ask those pushing their little hippies in strollers, along with our hippie walkers, to start at the back of the starting line and stay on the outer edge of the course path to allow the speedster hippies to run the course tangents. To accommodate those happy hippies who want to take their time and really soak in the beauty of the orchard, the 5K race has a 90-minute cutoff, while the 10K race has a 3 hour cutoff. The half-marathon has a 4 hour time limit and the marathon has a VERY generous time limit of 8 hours.. Pets are not allowed to enter Gilcrease Orchard, so please leave your fluffy hippies home. Porta-potties will be located at the start/finish line, as well as in the middle of the course. Water, Tailwind, bananas, oranges, along with miscellaneous snacks, will be available at the start/finish line for the 5K, 10K, half-marathon and marathon runners. The 12-hour ultra-runners will have a separate aid station stocked with traditional ultra-race snacks (i.e., pretzels, cookies, assorted chips, boiled potatoes, pickles, pastries, bananas, oranges, etc), along with deli sandwiches, grilled cheese, P&J sandwiches, pizza, bean burritos (vegan and regular) and a variety of soups (vegan and regular).
Every Happy Hippie Harvest finisher will receive the most hipped-out medal ever designed, along with a Happy Hippie Harvest Run race bandana which can be used as a face covering. As with all Beyond Limits Running races, you’ll receive a commemorative race-themed bumper sticker and magnet. All races will be RFID chip timed and there will be ample runner aid provided on the course and at the start/finish line. Hippie themed awards will be presented to the top 3 male and female podium finishers in each race. Speaking of awards, happy hippie costume running attire is very much encouraged with awards going to the best costumes. To keep everyone in a groovy mood, the very talented Jonny Hazard will perform live hippie-themed music set from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. High-end sublimated running tech shirts are available for purchase ($25) during the online registration process. The shirts are hippie-themed and will probably be the most outrageous running shirt you own!
Besides having a happy hippie good time running the race, you will feel happy hippie good knowing your participation is helping generate revenue for the Gilcrease Orchard Foundation. Through this non-profit foundation, Gilcrease Orchard aims to provide recreational and educational experiences that teach children where our food comes from and how it is grown, helping to foster an appreciation for the earth’s bounty and a healthy lifestyle. Beyond Limits Running is a proud financial supporter of the Gilcrease Orchard Foundation. Thanks to strong runner support over the years, the Happy Hippie Harvest Run has generated meaningful financial support for the Orchard over the years.
