Queens is all about diversity. It’s NYC’s second most populous borough with 2.3M people living in a community with the highest rate of racial and ethnic variety of all populous counties in the nation. So there is no better way to start and finish a race in Queens, NYC than through Flushing Meadows Park. You’ll run past the Unisphere on a relatively flat and fast course with two small uphill sections when you cross an overpass. The views from the overpass are so beautiful that you’ll hardly notice.
The course named “The Rocket” because it takes you directly beneath the iconic Rocket Thrower statue is expertly designed to take advantage of the long promenades in the park that are mostly tree lined providing you with some protection from the elements. It includes a ramp that goes over the highway and gives you views of the Unisphere and NYC. Half Marathoners run four loops of a 3.27 mile course. 10K runners complete two loops and 5K runners complete one loop of a 3.1 mile course that uses the same course as the half marathon with the exception of a .17 mile segment where 10K and 5K runners U-Turn.
