The iconic Fitger’s 5K has grown into one of the state’s premier spring races, offering a perfect challenge for runners of all ages and abilities while taking participants on a scenic tour of newly-renovated downtown Duluth.
This is the first of three races involved in the annual KP Challenge, in which participants commit to three races throughout the spring and summer. The other two are the Saint Fennessy 4K and Park Point 5-Miler & 2-Mile Walk, with the aim to help participants keep on a regular training schedule and consistently complete longer distance races.
Net proceeds from the event go to benefit the Young Athletes Foundation (YAF), the nonprofit arm of Grandma’s Marathon focused on helping the area’s youth develop healthy and active lifestyles. Since its inception in 1990, the YAF has donated more than $1.3 million to youth athletic and nonprofit organizations in a five-county region.

I highly recommend this race. It is a great race, the scenery is awesome and this year the weather was perfect. Of course this year there was not the usual after race events and free beer because of COVID but it still was just so great to do a live race! The shirt and medal are great and there were things for sale with some bonus deals. The wave start line went well, swift and smooth.

This is a fun race in Duluth, MN – I highly recommend. Very well organized and very scenic along the shore line for about half of it. I do wish it could be all along the lake walk. One draw back is where they have the post race beer and awards. The venue is much too small for such a large race.
