The EHQ Valley Falls 6 & 12 Hour features beautiful trails & tough elevation! Ready for to challenge yourself to reach that new distance PR while running some beautiful West Virginia trails? We won’t make it easy on you! With 750′ of elevation gain per 5.25 mile loop it adds up quickly! That’s 2,250′ per 25K!
Gravel service roads, single track trails, streams, rocky climbs, rolling trails, and of course the beautiful falls – this beautiful West Virginia state forest has a bit of everything!
Trail will be very clearly marked.
Course runs clockwise:
- First .75 miles are a gradual incline on a wide rocky service road along the roaring river.
- Next.75 miles continue with a rolling mix of wide and single track trails.
- Mile 1.5 to the halfway point enjoy steep/slow single and double track climbs to the aid station.
- Mile 2.5 to .3.75 are a fast and rolling downhill with some steep sections to test those quads later in the day.
- Mile 3.75 a wide gravel service road along the river that will feel fast at the first loop and feel never-ending by hour.
- Mile 5 is a fast paved downhill to the finish line with a gravel berm so you can avoid park traffic.
Facilities
The park has one restroom (male and female sides) with running water. There are no showers on site, but there may be a water hose available. A porta potty will also be available.
Valley Falls closes at night and camping is not permitted. No canopy sites will be reserved.
Aid Stations
Two fully stocked aid stations will be available at the /finish and the halfway point. Hydration will be Endure Fuel, water, and soda. Food will be a variety of usual ultra running fare including vegan goodies. Endure Caps (salt caps) will be available at both locations.
Runners should carry their own cups/handhelds/pack. Disposable cups will be available in limit quantities.
Aid stations will be as touchless as possible. Runner safety is top priority.
Personal Aid Stations
Runners are permitted and encouraged to set up their own personal aid stations such as a canopy to rest and recover throughout the day. Crews are permitted.
When setting up your aid station be considerate of other park visitors. We have permission to use the trails, but have not “rented” the entire state park.
Do not set up a canopy in the gravel parking lot areas.
Race Rules
Race at 7AM and the clock stops at 7PM. Only full laps will count towards your total distance, with the exception of marked 26.2mi, 50K, 50mi and 100K. If you meet a marked distance goal then turn around and back track to the , let the RD know you’re finished, and we’ll record it.
Poles are permitted. Pacers are permitted. Pets are not permitted for safety.
Trail shoes are highly recommended. Some uphill climbs can get muddy.
Cyclists and hikers may also be on the trails and there is plenty of single track. Be kind and share the trails!
Runners must stay on the park trails, even if it gets muddy!
