The Ed Anacker Bridger Ridge Run is one of the most technical trail runs in the United States. In 2012, Runner’s World Magazine named the Ridge Run one of its top 31 trail races in the country, giving it the title of “Most Raw Exposure.” In 2013, Outside Online named the Ridge Run one of its Top 10 Bucket List trail runs in the WORLD. The Ridge Run is 19.65 miles of brutal climbing and descending, complete with unstable footing, unpredictable weather, and, of course, miles of exposure along the ridge line of the Bridger Mountain range. Think you have what it takes to be one of the 250 runners allowed in each year?
The course is officially (GPS) 19.65 miles, so long as you take the “quick” way down from the “M” and don’t make too many detours during the race. The longer way down makes it 20.55 miles. Total elevation gain is 6,800 feet, with a 9,500 foot loss. If you have run the course before, you don’t need a map. If this is your first time on the Ridge, you are well served to get all the help possible. Maps (photocopies of USGS Topo maps) will be available at the Orientation Meetings. We run on the Sacagawea Peak, Saddle Peak, and Kelly Creek USGS 7.5 minute series topo maps.

Aid stations are out of this world, including the infamous keg at the top of Mt Baldy (8,900′ up), and then the large group gatherings at Ross Pass and Bridger Bowl.
The comradery on the course is second-to-none with everyone encouraging each other and willing to help when and as needed. This is a tough, tough course with incredible views, great swag, and – of course – a great finish line to boot.

Everything about this run is fantastic! Scenery, race production, communication, and the swag, to name a few; however, this has to be on your bucket list for the incredible volunteers and camaraderie that come with this run. Hundreds of volunteers hike up to the ridge – at 9,600 feet in one location, about 8,800 in the other – to provide food, water, and incredible support & encouragement. Most notably, a group of volunteers pack a keg – A KEG OF BEER – up 4 miles and 4,000 feet vertical gain to give runners a “pre-decent chug,” if you will. This is one race that needs to be on every trail runners bucket list. It’s incredible!

This is a race that should be on everyone’s bucket lists. It is INCREDIBLY challenging with >50% of the course being unrunnable for the average runner. However, the views from the top of the ridge are second-to-none, and the volunteers who hike to the top of the toughest peaks are incredibly supportive and encouraging. Without them, I guarantee many people would not finish the race. Make sure you stick to a regimented training plan leading up to the race as it will wear out even the most seasoned legs! Well worth the time an effort!
