Many people think you’re running up and down sand dunes or across sand. This is not true. The race happens on the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail at the base of the sand dunes. It’s paved and flat. The course is beautiful because you are in the trees while at the same time within view of the dunes. In some cases, you get to see where the dunes are swallowing up the forest.
There were 212 runners this year. Don’t let the small number fool you. There are serious competitors out here.
There are shirts for all registrants and medals for top age-group and overall finishers. The medals are really nice. The shirt is cotton. The race fee is relatively inexpensive and goes to a good cause.
I’ll do this race as many times as I can. I love it.
