Join Wolf Pack Events for the Du 3 Bears Duathlon and separate 5 Mile Run/Walk at the beautiful San Pablo Reservoir. The reservoir boasts gorgeous views of the lake and surrounding hills and has hiking trails, kayaks and boats for rent, and picnicking spots throughout.
For the duathlon, only you get to cross the DAM. Great VIEWS! The run, 2.35 is half asphalt and half trail. Upon return, Off to your bike which will be racked in 10 year age groups by gender. Next is your Ride around the Bears, come back in and here is the difference on the second run. It will only be 2.2 miles, but you will appreciate the shorter distance because the runs are rolling hills. Down the hill make immediate left and down to the end of the Dam. Go around the turnaround and back up to the finish line in the Upper Parking lot.
The 5 Mile runners/walkers will take off with the Du’ers. The 5 Miler will be on the same route, but will continue down a gentle slope to the end of the trail for the turnaround. Back up the trail and across the Dam again… enjoy the view, but just for a moment (it is a race after all!). Back onto the asphalt and head for the Upper Parking lot (a short hill) to the Finish Line
The Reservoir provides the greatest course to challenge you, but not break you. The bike course circles the Reservoir and encompasses the 3 Bears… Mama, Papa, and Baby. But most important is the beauty of this venue. Whether it’s Summer, Spring, Fall, or Winter the foliage changes, the sun peaks over the lake, or hides in misty fog. It’s a photo moment every time! We have a gem here in the East Bay.

I ran the 5 miler. This race usually has a duathlon, but the heavy rains caused a complete washout of Alhambra Valley Road in Orinda which the bike course is raced on and the duathlon was canceled. The 5 mile race went on without trouble.
The run takes place at the El Sobrante entrance to the San Pablo Reservoir. The course is mostly on the closed rolling paved San Pablo Dam Road with about 25% on dirt fire road. It is a nice course with views of the water and the forested area. We ran across the dam and, if you chose to, you could run a little further and see all the excess water flowing over the dam spillway. We had so much rain leading up to this race. The dirt area was very squishy in spots, but not too much mud.
At the finish, we received our medal. There were age group medals for men and women and there were plaques for Master, Grand Master, Great Grand Master men and women. These plaques were intended for the Duathlon winners, but since that race was canceled, they were given to the 5 mile winners. I WON the Grand Master Women age 50-59. I couldn’t believe it. I was so excited. And, YES, there was more than one person in the 50-59 women. :o)
The finish line food consisted of fruit, pastries, bagels, and brownies. Everyone received unisex shirt.
This was a small race, but it was fun and had a great vibe. This is my second Wolfpack race and will do another in the future.
