Dow Chemical puts on a fun-run race for their employees, contractors, and family members on the day before Thanksgiving. I’ve done it annually since I first became aware of it. Having won multiple times and finished in the top 3 each year makes it one of my favorite races to do. There’s no official prizes given out–only if your name gets drawn from a hat. But no complaints…it’s free!
The race used to take place on a wooded walking trail on the corporate campus, then due to construction it was moved to the East End rail trail down by the Tridge. Around 100 people each year show up for it.
In 2016 I was trying to defend my streak of 4 wins in a row, but I came down with a cold the day of the race and knew the previous years’ runner-up would dethrone me. I gave it my all, ended up with 3rd place, and spent the next two days in bed!
It's become a pre-Thanksgiving tradition
