Welcome to the Dirt Dash, an adventure that seamlessly blends the beauty of nature with the thrill of trail running.
This is the same race you know and love but under new management with Palmetto Ultras.
Nestled within the heart of Johns Island, this race invites participants to embark on a journey through lush landscapes, winding trails, and breathtaking scenery that define the Lowcountry’s charm. The race begins at the Johns Island County Park, where runners will find themselves surrounded by ancient oaks draped in Spanish moss. The course is designed to challenge participants with a mix of terrains, from well-groomed paths through open meadows to wooded trails.
The race features various distances to cater to all levels of runners from beginners seeking a scenic challenge to seasoned trail runners aiming to test their limits.
The Dirt Dash isn’t just a race; it’s a celebration of athleticism, nature, and community. With its unique blend of trails and scenic beauty, this race promises an unforgettable experience for all those who lace up their trail shoes.
Aid Station
There is one aid station located at the start finish line and it will be fully stocked with usual race day snacks like gummy candy, chips, pretzels, water, electrolyte drink, and more!
Whatever you will require during the 3.3 mile loop you must carry with you.
We will either have a food truck on site or we’ll be grilling out around 12pm. We’ll also have some breakfast items available earlier in the day– Exact menu is TBD!
The Course
The course is a beautiful 3.3 mile loop with a mix of grassy paths and wide open trails!
If you’re running the 5k you will run 1 loop
If you’re running the 10k you will run 2 loops
If you’re running the half marathon you will run 4 loops
If you’re running the marathon you will run 8 loops
A looped course means you don’t have to carry as much fluid/nutrition with you because you’ll be back at the start/finish line and the fully stocked aid station every 3.3 miles.
You are welcome to drop nutrition/fluids/gear off near the aid station so you can restock in between loops. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
All distances have a cutoff time of 7 hours.
Swag & Awards
While we’re fine-tuning some of the details, rest assured that your race experience will be nothing short of extraordinary. And yes, we’re talking about some seriously impressive swag! Everyone who registers for the race is in for a treat – think top-notch gear and goodies that will make your trail-running heart skip a beat. Everyone who registers will receive a custom BOCO Gear hat with our brand new logo. These are by far the best running hats out there! Lightweight and breathable and perfect for those hot lowcountry runs.
But that’s not all. Complete your chosen distance, and you’ll not only earn the satisfaction of conquering the course but also proudly wear a custom designed finisher’s medal.
And for those speedsters out there – the top three male and female finishers in each distance will earn a coveted award.

Basic dirt trail run. Not complicated. Flat, no hills. No mile markers, no cheering adoring fans. It’s just you and the forest (and music if you brought your iPod). As a slow runner, I was basically running alone most of the time. My GPS watch didn’t register so I didn’t know how far along I was, which made it mentally challenging to keep going. Worth doing this race at least once.
