Die to Run “Last Person Standing Event”
Welcome to Die to Run, the ultimate test of endurance, strategy, and a little bit of luck. Located at Airport Hanger 3, Hatbox Sports Complex in Muskogee, Oklahoma, this backyard ultra throws predictability out the window. Every hour, a six-sided die will be rolled live to determine the next loop’s distance, ranging from one to six miles. It’s a challenge designed to test your physical limits and mental adaptability. Whether you’re chasing a personal best or aiming to be the last one standing, this race will push you in a way no other has. Are you ready to face your destiny?
Finisher Awards
Walk away with your trophy the moment you tap out. Every runner receives a solid cedar 3.5″ x 3.5″ wooden die, laser-engraved on-site immediately after you finish. Whether you run a single yard or go for the win, your block will be customized with your name and exact mileage before you leave the park.
General Rules
The goal is simple: be the last runner to complete a lap.
The Die Roll: Five minutes before the top of each hour, a die will be rolled to determine the distance (1-6 miles) for the next out-and-back lap.
A Special Rule for the First Two Loops: To help runners ease into the event, if a 5 or 6 is rolled during the first two hours, the distance will be adjusted to 4 miles.
Rule of Threes: After the first 6 hours, any roll of a 1 becomes a 3.
Rule of Fours: After the first 12 hours, any roll of a 2 becomes a 4.
Rule of Fives: After the first 18 hours, any roll of a 3 becomes a 5.
Rule of Sixes: After the first 24 hours, any roll of a 4 becomes a 6.
The Course: The course is a flat out-and-back on the paved Hatbox path. The distance of the out-and-back will change each hour, meaning your turnaround point will vary.
Hourly Cutoff: All runners must complete the designated distance within the 60-minute time limit to be eligible for the next lap.
No Late Starts: If you are not in the starting corral when the next lap begins, you will be disqualified.
On-Course Aid: You may not receive personal aid while on the course, but you are allowed to carry your own supplies. All aid is located at the main aid station at the start/finish line.
Elimination & Winner Determination
Elimination: A runner is eliminated if they fail to complete the designated distance within the one-hour cutoff, or if they are not in the starting corral when the next loop begins.
The Sole Survivor: The race continues until there is only one runner remaining who is capable of completing one final loop. This runner is the winner, and everyone else is considered a DNF (Did Not Finish).
Race Conduct
On the Course: Participants must stay on the marked out-and-back course at all times and reach the designated turnaround point for that hour. Any shortcuts or deviations will result in immediate disqualification.
Crew: Crew support is highly encouraged, but crews are only allowed in the designated base camp area. They may not assist a runner on the course.
Respect the Trail: Be courteous to other runners and any park visitors. Please do not litter.
Race Director Authority: The Race Director has the final say on all matters and reserves the right to disqualify any participant for unsportsmanlike conduct or a breach of race rules.
Weather & Cancellation
Your safety is our top priority.
Weather: The race will proceed rain or shine unless weather conditions are deemed unsafe by the race director.
Cancellation: In the event of extreme weather such as lightning or a tornado warning, the race will be paused for a minimum of one hour. If the severe weather does not pass, the race may be canceled at the discretion of the Race Director.
Refunds: I acknowledge and agree that my registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferable for any reason, including weather-related cancellation.
