Originally Co-Founded by Bob Huggins and Bill Schultz, the event started as a 12Hr race in 1984 as the Dawn To Dusk Ultras. It ran consecutively until 2001. During that time, the race grew in interest and changed to a 24Hr from 1986 to 1995. Over the years, the race included shorter events – 50K, 50M, 100K, and 12Hr.
As more runners started running in the woods on trails, interest in track ultras waned and the race reverted back to its original 12Hr format from 1996 to 2001. At that time, after 18 years, it was decided to let the race fade away.
By 2013 interest in 24Hr and longer event seemed to be returning, and it was decided by new Co-Directors Josh Irvan and Bill Schultz to bring the race back – this time, as the Dawn To Dusk To Dawn Track Ultras.
There are three events this year. The shortest is the 50K. It started at 9:00AM Saturday and ends when the Runner completes the distance – 125 laps on the 400m track. The Course Record for the Men is 3:31:17 held by Josh Finger in 2017. Pam Smith has the Women’s CR of 4:12:15 that was her split in the 2016 24Hr!
The 12Hr starts at 7:00PM Saturday and ends at 7:00AM Sunday. The CR is held by Pam Smith with 88.23 miles. It again was her split from the 24Hr. For the Men, Rich Riopel put up 85.89 miles in 2019. Like Pam, Rich’s 12Hr was his split in 24Hrs.
As mentioned, the 24Hr starts at 7:00AM Sunday and ends 7:00AM Sunday. Should be no real surprises as to who holds the CRs. Overall, Rich Riopel ran 161. 82 in 2019 and Pam Smith ran 143.66 in 2016.
