Darling Dash

The Houston-based As One Foundation is happy to announce that its Sickle Cell 10K, 5K, and 1K race is back for another year. The Darling Dash is a family fun-filled day of fitness, vendors, games and activities to help raise awareness of Sickle Cell and Sickle Cell Trait athlete deaths that plague the sickle cell community. Prizes are awarded, post-race snacks are available, and the entire family will enjoy a day of fun and exercise.

The As One Foundation was created by former NFL wide receiver Devard Darling after the loss of his twin brother Devaughn, also an aspiring football player, who passed away during football practice from a combination of dehydration, physical overexertion, and complications of a sickle cell trait. 

The Darling Dash 1K, 5K, and timed 10K at Stude Park honors the memory of Devaughn by raising money to help continue As One Foundation’s educational programs that reach athletes, coaches, and parents to raise awareness on the dangers of sickle cell trait and intense physical activity.
